P90X Yoga X
Yoga X for your health
I'm one of the many on and off exercisers in America, I have to confess, but I have always been into yoga, and apparently one of the new things in yoga is Yoga X, which I gather is a more intense, extreme version of yoga (for those of us that want to feel the burn and see more immediate results). While I certainly admire the drive to be healthy and fit, I think that there are certain benefits of yoga that are lost in Yoga X or extreme yoga.
Yoga X and traditional yoga
Traditional yoga is not meant to turn us all into super buff, super built, super thin, or super sexy individuals. The tradition behind yoga is one of discipline and devotion, not to Yoga X become super sexy, but to control your mind and your body, to reach greater spiritual heights. While I don't think everything has to be completely based on, revolving around, and resulting in great spiritual stuff, I do have a little bit of hesitation with accepting Yoga X if it is about losing the spiritual aspect for a self-centered "sexy" aspect.
Yoga X and body image
While, on the one hand, a lot of people have had their body image helped by becoming better looking, more healthy individuals through a program like Yoga X, many many people in the world do not automatically gain better body image by becoming more fit and attractive. The problem is figuring out where the body image problems come from, and dealing with the real source of the issue. And a lot of the time people that become sexier and vain aren't always less insecure about how they look, because at the slightest hint of weight gain, aging, or other "adverse" affects they start to lose it. So Yoga X or any diet and exercise program is not necessarily the answer to feeling bad about yourself and your body.
What is Yoga X good for
So what is Yoga X good for? Well, if you enjoy a physical challenge, it's probably very good for that. If you like trying new things, experimenting with new fads, or just mixing it up once in a while, Yoga X is good for that too. If you don't have the time for a longer traditional workout, and you want something quick and intense but with the same stretching and limbering results of yoga, Yoga X might be just perfect for that. But remember, no diet, no clothes, no exercise, not even Yoga X can fix insecurities about yourself. You have to learn to love yourself no matter what before you can appreciate the great new body Yoga X could give you.
